Plan handwashing stations in Chicago
Identify where handwashing is needed, who will use it, how water and wastewater will be handled, and what service access is available.
Add handwashing to my planStart with where people need to wash
Record who will use the station, the expected busiest period and where washing is needed. Consider the path between the work or event area and the facilities, then ask the provider about placement and accessible use.
OSHA’s overview distinguishes soap-and-water washing from waterless cleaner where washing facilities are required. Do not treat sanitizer as a universal replacement. Ask the site safety lead which requirements apply to the work.
Confirm the full water and supply arrangement
- Water source and whether the equipment’s use calls for potable water.
- Wastewater capture, tank capacity questions and responsibility for servicing.
- Soap, towels, dispensers and restocking during the use period.
- Stable placement, accessible operation and room around the station.
- Cold weather, freezing protection and supply continuity.
- Delivery and service-vehicle access throughout the rental.
Add washing to the wider setup
For a construction site, connect the request to crew size, operating shifts and contaminants requiring safety review. For an event, connect it to venue facilities, food and beverage activity, and peak use.
Food-service rules require review by the relevant authority; this page does not establish food-code compliance.
Add handwashing to my plan so the provider can assess the water, supplies and service questions together.
Keep the details together.
Chicago Site Sanitation helps customers plan and request portable sanitation service. With your permission, your request may be shared with an independent service provider that can evaluate availability and the job details. A request is not a confirmed booking, price, delivery time, or compliance determination.
